These cassettes contain recordings of the Ulverston and Windermere Choral Societies made at Ulverston Parish Church in 1986 and 1987.
I took my cassette player to the cottage attic on saturday and played them. This is an excerpt from a recording made in the downstairs room as the tape played above my head.The original recording was made by F.M Mallinson and collected by the Civic Society, along with details of the performances.
The singers and musicians are Wendy Jackson ( Soprano), Elizabeth Lamb ( Contralto) Sam Strange ( Tenor), Brian Lancaster
(Bass), Colin Dean ( Piano), Colin Tolson (Organ) and Reginald Griffiths (Conductor).
We'll be suggesting digitising the tapes, although the original recordings are very clear and the tapes are in great condition; you hear audience sounds, coughs and shufflings.
Here, you might hear a further layer ; traffic from around Dragley Beck and the sound of the cassette player itself sounding through the floorboards.
