Ellie Chaney:Evocative Objects, a workshop and her Blog

For one aspect of her Soft Drive research , Ellie is interested in the way that objects and documents found in the Civic Society collection were decorated or embellished to give them more value, and signify their importance. Techniques such as printing, embossing and gilding can all be found within the objects in the  collection, and discussions between our artists about formats for new work have included Rubber Stamps, Tattoos, and Embossing..

You can see some Embossers  from local shops at the cottage over the next couple of weekends as part of our Evocative Object season, and on Sunday October 20th, Using the embossing stamps from the attic as inspiration, join Ellie to learn simple embossing techniques, with activities suitable for all ages.

Ellie's own site and blog is always with a visit, here's a link..

Ellie's blog is full of insights into her practice and the thinking behind it. All the practitioners working on Soft Drive have lives and projects that extend beyond what we are doing. We benefit from their eclecticism, and from the conversations that take place between them and around them in their various guises.

Today's been great:  I've spoken to Jamie about participating in a scoping exercise involving his Phd students, with Lindsay about ideas for developing the SJB Cottage garden , with Alex about Hallowe'en makes and  with musician Mike Willoughby  I've arranged a trip to see Artspace/Storyfair mainman Dominic Kelly live at BrIgsteer on thursday.  Such tributaries are among the great joys of these projects, and all of them will flow throughout whatever happens next..
